What is the best winter jacket, winter shoes, winter pants?

I have lived in California all my life, so i never needed real winter clothes. Now i'll be moving to maryland. I am not sure what I am going to need there to survive a snowy winter. Was wondering what are the warmest types/brands of clothing that are lightweight and good for Maryland type winter weather
