I want to start reading comics/graphic novels, but where do I start?

Obviously at the beginning starting with the very first comic. You can find them online, or spend big money on trying to find them. Just be warned however that some sites you visit online might make you pay to read them. Also if you ever visit NYC check out a store called Forbidden Planet located on the corner of 13th st and Broadway Ave. That place is like a mecca for comics.
