Was Jesus playing word games when he promised eternal "spirit" life?

He meant that when you died his father would order a stone tombstone to mark your grave with your name on it. The "memory" (spirit) of you would last foever because your name was carved in marbel or granite. That is the spirit life Jesus promised you.
